Looking After Your Teeth at Home During Lockdown

With routine dental visits on hold, prevention at home matters more than ever. Simple habits to protect your family's teeth until normal care resumes.

By Dr. Akash Agarwal ·

During the lockdown, dental clinics across India limited routine treatment and focused on emergencies. That makes good habits at home more important than ever.

Keep a routine

  • Brush twice a day — especially before bed
  • Clean between your teeth once a day
  • Keep snacking to set times rather than all day at home
  • Choose water over sugary drinks and juices

Children at home

Days at home can mean more biscuits and sweets. Keep treats to mealtimes, and supervise brushing for younger children.

What counts as a dental emergency

  • Facial swelling, especially with fever
  • Severe pain that painkillers don't control
  • A knocked-out or badly broken tooth
  • Bleeding that won't stop
